Exhibition “Operation Vittles Safeguarding the Berlin Airlift” at Docu Center Ramstein

Docu Center Ramstein shows its new exhibition “Operation Vittles Safeguarding the Berlin Airlift”. The Berlin Airlift remains one of the most remarkable humanitarian air supply operations in history. During the Berlin Blockade of 1948–1949, when the Soviet Union cut off all rail, road, and water access to West Berlin, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France responded by airlifting food and fuel to Berlin from Allied air bases in western Germany. Over two million tons of supplies were flown into West Berlin. The “Candy Bombers” became a global symbol of solidarity and hope. While the traveling exhibition of the Allied Museum in Berlin offers an insightful glance into this historical relief operation, the DCR focuses on the role of the 86th Fighter Bomber Wing in escorting transport aircraft and the contributions of the Labor Service Unit. The official opening of the exhibition takes place on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. The exhibition can be visited until June 29, 2025, during the opening hours of Docu Center Ramstein. These are Tuesday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
