After the long winter break it is time for Kaiserslautern Gartenschau to open its doors for visitors. Thousands of spring flowers bloom at the park right now. Seventy life-sized dinosaur figures are excited to welcome the first visiting kids again. In addition to a skateboard park, playgrounds, and picnic areas the Gartenschau also features a LEGO exhibition as well as a sand sculpture exhibition to marvel at. The historic wine-growing village of Herxheim am Berg celebrates spring. Participating wineries with historic wine cellars and welcoming courtyards invite the guests to sample their excellent wines from last year’s vintage. Numerous restaurants offer light and delicious spring dishes. Several exhibitors offer decoration items, jewelry, purses, herbs, honey farm and distillery products, manufactured goods, arts and crafts and much more for sale. Visitors are invited to go for a stroll through the village center, take part in a varied program and discover spring delights. The market starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

This is the right event for ramblers and sports enthusiasts. The hiking marathon takes place along the certified Hinkelstein hiking trail, which leads along untouched forest trails and fields, past historical boundary stones, quaint ponds, charming landscapes, and breathtaking views such as Donnersberg Mountain. Participants have the choice between a marathon distance of approx. 42 kilometers (26 miles) with 500 meters difference in altitude and a half-marathon distance of approx. 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) with 200 meters difference in altitude. The hiking trail is marked and signposted. Along the route there are refreshment stations and checkpoints. Own drinking cup is required. Participants can either hike or run the marathon distance. Hikers can start the marathon from 7:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. and runners can start from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The half marathon can be started from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Start and finish is at Stadthalle Otterberg. Participation fee for the run and the half marathon is € 20, for the marathon € 25. The participation fee includes a surprise gift, snacks, and beverages.
