Mother´s Day in the Limestone Mine Wolfstein

All mothers will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine. Mining has been carried out in Wolfstein for centuries. Besides ore and coal, lime was also mined. Since the 1980s the disused mine with all its equipment and structure has been a museum. It takes the visitors to the past times of the miners. Interested people can experience the work of the last miner and owner of the mine Otto Cappel. The entertaining guided tour shows what work and effort it meant for the miners to earn their living with mining. There is a special feature in the lime mine: the limestone layer runs slightly upwards and relatively flat into the mountainside. Due to this circumstance, it is possible to reach the interior of the mountain comfortably by mine train. Guided tours offered from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. are suitable for all ages. Last entry is at 5 p.m. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are recommended. Entrance fee is € 7 for adults, € 6 for youths and € 18.50 for families (2 adults and own children). Families, groups and school classes can arrange individual appointments for an English guided tour. For further information please send an email to claudia.wagner@vg-lw.de or call Ms. Wagner at +49 6382 791 118.

Pop Art Exhibition “Some like it hot” at Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern

The title of Billy Wilder´s American film comedy could not be more fitting: hot, colorful, and garish. Who could resist the unmissable works of pop art? The famous icons include Andy Warhol´s depictions of Marilyn Monroe and the Coke bottle. 55 works on loan from the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen depict the phenomenon of Pop Art and at the same time bring to life a piece of American and German history from the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition is bilingual – all texts and audio stations as well as the exhibition magazine are in German and English. Opening hours of the museum are Tuesday to Sunday, as well as German holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Thursdays the museum is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission fee to this special exhibition is € 8 for adults, kids and students have free admission.
