Kaiserslautern May Fair
The Kaiserslautern fair has the reputation of being the biggest folk festival in Western Palatinate. Annually, the fairground offering a large variety of rides for children and adults allures many people to Kaiserslautern´s Messeplatz. Visitors can enjoy a huge fun mile featuring a roller coaster, a giant Ferris wheel, merry-go-rounds and many other fun rides. Many vendors provide culinary specialties, candies, products of arts and crafts, spices, household articles and much more. Wednesday, May 29, is family day with reduced prices and special offers and activities. Friday, May 31 is German-American Friendship Day with musical entertainment by the Rodenbach Music Association. Saturdays the opening hours are from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. All other weekdays the fair opens from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. A closing fireworks display takes place at 10 p.m. on Monday evening, June 3.

Family Festival in Miesenbach
The Miesenbach “M.E.T.” club (Miesenbacher Ereignis und Traditionsverein) hosts a family festival on the playground at Weiherstrasse in Miesenbach. The festival starts at 2 p.m. The “M.E.T.” club offers food and beverages as well as fun and action for the whole family. Children and their parents can enjoy a varied entertainment program including games and crafting activities offered by the Miesenbach day care center “Kinderplanet” and the local clubs. Wine Hike in Grünstadt-Sausenheim
The wine hike in Grünstadt-Sausenheim, first held in 2004, counts among the best-known and most popular wine hikes along the northern part of the German Wine Street. It traditionally takes place on the first weekend in June. The loop trail of approx. 5.5 km (3.4 miles) leads through the vineyards and offers a fabulous panoramic view. Along the hiking trail, participants can treat themselves to regional dishes and selected wines provided at 8 stations. Local wineries spoil their guests with specialties such as Palatinate yeast dumplings, tarte flambée, spit roast, asparagus salad, flame-grilled salmon, coffee, cakes and much more. Visitors who purchase a wine tasting pass can taste one wine of their choice at each station. The wine tasting pass includes a souvenir glass and is available for € 20 at any of the stopover points. Holders of a wine tasting pass can participate in a raffle and win attractive non-cash prizes, if their pass is completely stamped, provided with address data and handed in by 6 p.m. at one of the stations. The purchase of a wine pass is not mandatory for participation in the hike! On both days of the event, a shuttle bus will run between Grünstadt train station and the hiking trail from 9.45 a.m. to 7.15 p.m. every half an hour. The event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“Picnic in the Park” at Rose Garden Zweibrücken
The landmark of the city of Zweibrücken is its rose garden with more than 45,000 roses blooming there. Visitors can enjoy a nice walk through the rose garden including different areas, a pond, and a playground. The “Picnic in the Park” event invites the visitors to bring along their picnic basket, a blanket and listen to live musical entertainment. The quintet “Fräulein J. & die Tournedos” has dedicated itself to German hits of the fifties and sixties. With drums, guitar, keyboard and saxophone, the ensemble takes the audience into the nostalgic world of the German economic miracle years. The performance starts at 11 a.m. The garden is open from May through September from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is € 5.50 for adults and € 2 for children aged 6 to 17 years; children younger than 6 years have free admission.
