Friday, June 7 – Sunday, June 9:

German American Friendship Festival in Ramstein

This weekend a big fair is held in celebration of the German-American friendship. The venue is John-F.-Kennedy-Platz in the center of Ramstein. More than 20 stands offer a large variety of culinary specialties and beverages from both countries. Three days long, live music is presented on an open-air stage. On Friday the entertainment starts at 6 p.m. with Touch 'n Go, the popular music ensemble of the United States Air Forces in Europe Band. From 8 p.m. the party band CHANGES continues with pop, rock, funk and soul. On Saturday the rock band Hijack Nick performs at 6 p.m. Frantic Classic Rock entertains the people from 8 p.m. On Sunday the country band Country To Go performs on stage from 2 p.m. and a family program including join-in activities, bull riding and a bouncy castle is provided. The admission to the event is free. Festival hours are Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the state program "Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz! Our Neighbors from the USA (WiR!)".

Saturday, June 8 – Sunday, June 9:

Medieval Spectacle in Obermoschel

The young and old are invited to experience an authentic reenactment of the Middle Ages at the Moschellandsburg Castle Ruin. The market features Viking camps, craftsmen, musicians, knights and jugglers. Traders offer a wide range of goods for sale. Visitors can look over the craftsmen´s shoulder presenting ancient handicraft. Show fights of armed warriors, ax throwing, an archery tournament and other games guarantee great fun for the whole family. Children can participate in a tricky riddle. On Saturday a spectacular fire show entertains the visitors at nightfall (approx. 9:30 p.m.). Medieval food and beverages are available. Opening hours of the medieval market are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Admission fee for medieval dressed people and children until 14 years is 5 € (weekend ticket € 8). Adults pay € 9 (weekend ticket € 16). Kids with a height of up to 55 inch have free admission. Parking available near the castle ruin.

Saturday, June 8:

English Guided Tour of Kaiserslautern

Experience history and culture of Kaiserslautern in a lively way! The tour starts with a visit of the Count Palatinate Hall of the former Casimir Castle, where official receptions of the city are held today. Afterwards the tour continues through the underground passages. These tunnels are approx. 70 meters long. The passages are equipped with illuminated boards and sound effects illustrating Kaiserslautern in ancient times. The tour starts at 11.15 a.m. and takes approx. 1.5 hours. Meeting Point for the tour is the Tourist Information (address: Fruchthallstrasse 14, 67655 Kaiserslautern). Participation fee is € 7 for adults; the reduced fee is € 6. Sunday, June 9:

English Guided Tour: Pop Art Exhibition at Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern

The title of Billy Wilder´s American film comedy could not be more fitting: hot, colorful, and garish. Who could resist the unmissable works of pop art? The famous icons include Andy Warhol´s depictions of Marilyn Monroe and the Coke bottle. 55 works on loan from the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen depict the phenomenon of Pop Art and at the same time bring to life a piece of American and German history from the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition is bilingual – all texts and audio stations as well as the exhibition magazine are in German and English. An English guided tour of the exhibition takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m. (participation fee € 3). Opening hours of the museum are Tuesday to Sunday, as well as German holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Thursdays the museum is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission fee to this special exhibition is € 8 for adults, kids and students have free admission.
