After a three-year break more than 100,000 visitors are looking forward to the city festival in Kaiserslautern called Altstadtfest. With live music on 9 open-air stages the historic city center turns into a huge event mile. The music program ranges from rock via funk and soul through to blues. Further great entertainment is guaranteed by street theater and presentations of arts and crafts. Throughout the old part of town, many vendors offer a wide range of merchandise such as leather goods, jewelry and much more. Culinary specialties and beverages are available as well. The festival takes place on Friday from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Tourist Information Kaiserslautern offers a guided tour through the Count Palatinate Hall with the subterranean tunnels. The tour will take you to the history and culture of the ancient times of “K-town”. It starts with a visit of the Count Palatinate Hall of the former Casimir Castle, where official receptions of the city are held today. Afterwards you descend to the subterranean tunnels. These passages are approx. 70 meters long. The tunnels are equipped with illuminated boards and sound effects illustrating the history of Kaiserslautern. The tour starts at 11.15 a.m. and takes approx. 1.5 hours. Meeting Point for the tour is the Tourist Information in Kaiserslautern. Participation fee is € 5 for adults, discounted tickets are € 4. Otterberg's ancient abbey church is a wonderful venue for concerts as it offers sonorous acoustics. The "Collegium Musicum Saarland" presents music from England for choir and orchestra. Its program includes works by English composers and the Liechtenstein composer Josef Gabriel Rheinberger. The orchestra plays pieces by Benjamin Britten (Simple Symphony) and Joseph Haydn, who also established a musical connection to England with his "London Symphonies". In large instrumentation the symphony orchestra plays the very rarely heard organ concerto by J. G. Rheinberger in F major. Prof Dr. Helmut Freitag is the soloist. The choir performs religious music from England. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are available in two price categories: category 1: € 22 / category 2: € 16.
