Friday, January 20 - Sunday, January 22:

Red Wine Hike in Freinsheim

Fresh air, delicacies and excellent red wines are guaranteed! The event starts with a torch hike on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The torch hike leads from the historic city hall to the first booth of the hiking trail. Torches are sold at the city hall from 5.15 p.m. The wine booths open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday. Hikers have the opportunity to sample selected red wines of the local vintners and enjoy Palatinate specialties offered at 13 stopover points along the loop road. The 4.3 miles long trail leads through the wonderful vineyards of Freinsheim. The booths along the trail are open from 11.30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can easily get to Freinsheim by train.

Saturday, January 21:

Weekly Fruit and Vegetable Market in Kaiserslautern

Weekly markets have been held around the Kaiserslautern Collegiate Church for many hundreds of years. A photo from 1929 shows the weekly market on Stiftsplatz (market square), where it has been held since the mid-19th century to the present day. The weekly market takes place every Tuesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Kaiserslautern´s Stiftsplatz. Fresh and organic groceries such as fruits, vegetables, cheese, fish, meat and sausage products can be purchased. Baked goods and also flowers and plants are available as well. Visitors are invited to browse around and experience the lovely atmosphere.

Daily from Friday, January 20:

Ice Rink in Kaiserslautern

From January 20th, 2023, an exciting winter fun activity awaits you on Kaiserslautern´s Schillerplatz. On Kaiserslautern's first ecological ice rink, you can do your laps on 300 sq m of ice with your own skates or with rental skates. Enjoy ice skating without the negative climate balance of a conventional ice rink! Up to 80 people can comfortably be on the rink at the same time. The synthetic ice rink has a size of 26 x 12 meters. Ice skates and skating aids can also be hired on site. Alternatively, you can of course also bring your own ice skates. They just must be sharpened properly. If required, you can have them sharpened at the skating rink. The price for skate rental is € 4.50 per person. Admission for one hour skating fun is € 4.50 for adults and € 3.50 for children. Opening hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wintry drinks as well as hearty & sweet delicacies are offered at some rustic huts next to the rink.
