Snow clearance - obligation to strew
According to the ordinance, the home or property owner within the built-up area is responsible for clearing and salting the sidewalk as well as halfway into the roadway, especially in case of snowfall.
In case of increased snowfall, it is important to ensure that the snow, piled up on the edge of the road, does not affect the flow of moving traffic as well as pedestrians.
It is also important to ensure that parked vehicles do not obstruct snow plows and trash trucks.
In case of thawing, the street gutters need to be kept clear so that water can easily flow away.
Infringements/ violations of this ordinance may result in fines.
Furthermore, the property owner also infringes/ violates the legal duty to maintain safety. In the event of any property or personal damage due to neglect, the property owner may be held liable to any claims for recourse.
