Shoemakers' Festival in Pirmasens

For more than 200 years Pirmasens has been the hometown and manufacturing of footwear. Over 100 shoe factories were once located there. Even today, many shoe stores invite people to shop and stroll around. The Shoemakers’ Festival, the so-called Schlabbeflicker Fest in Palatinate dialect, is a great opportunity to combine the visit to Pirmasens with shopping. The event offers worth-seeing art performances, join-in activities and live music on several stages in the town center. An entertainment program for children is offered along Bahnhofstrasse. On Saturday and Sunday the festival starts already at 11 a.m. Stores open for Sunday shopping from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. The shoe museum is open as well and can be visited from Tuesday through Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Parking: Schlossstrasse 44, 66953 Pirmasens

Exhibition “Unser Kerb soll läwe hoch!“ at the Ramstein Museum im Westrich

The Ramstein Museum of local History “Museum im Westrich“ presents its new special exhibition with the German title “Unser Kerb soll läwe hoch!“ (English translation: “Celebrating the Parish Fair”). This exhibition is dedicated to the tradition of celebrating the parish fair in the Union Community of Ramstein-Miesenbach. The focus is on the history and religious origins as well as on today’s significance of this folk festival for the local clubs and village community. The fair has been an integral part of cultural life for generations. Numerous historical objects, lovingly collected memorabilia, and many photos and documents visualize that the fair is more than just a festival – it is a reflection of the regional identity. The members of the Museum im Westrich are pleased that many local groups (Straußjugend) responsible for creating the fair pole and drafting the fair speech also are actively involved in the exhibition. The exhibition can be visited until Wednesday, 29 October 2025, throughout the regular opening hours of the museum which are Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free!
