Friday, October 28:

“Open Friday” – Wine Event in the Zellertal Valley

Six wineries from the Palatinate region as well as from the Rhinehessen region open their yards, cellars, barns, and wine stores from 6 p.m. until midnight. With a guest vintner, all in all seven participating wineries present their current wine collection and offer the TAKE 5 wine tasting. At each winery visitors can sample 5 wines for the price of 10 €. This way wine lovers can explore the Zellertal valley and get an overview of different wine styles there. Sparkling wines as well as refreshments can be purchased additionally. Various delicacies from particular estate kitchens are available too. The after-tasting parties with DJs start at 11 p.m. at the following venues: Boudier&Koeller Winery and Schwedhelm Winery. Between 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. there is a limited number of minibuses that take the visitors from one host to another. The ticket price per person for the shuttle bus is 2 €. Saturday, October 29 – Sunday, October 30:

Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze in Gerhardsbrunn

October is the month of harvest season at the Guhl Farm in Gerhardsbrunn also known as Sunshine Pumpkin Farm. You are cordially invited to pick pumpkins of your choice at the pumpkin patch that opens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in October. There are 40 kinds of pumpkins available. Pumpkin cake and gri+lled sausages are offered, too. Another attraction is the corn maze that is accessible from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in October. Admission to the corn maze is € 3.50 for kids (aged 5 -14) and € 4 for adults. Children up to 4 years have free admission. The farm store, offering pumpkins and various other farm products for sale, regularly opens from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays plus every Saturday and Sunday in October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to the current situation, the farm can be explored by self-guided tours only. Children´s Halloween Event at Kaiserslautern Gartenschau

Before the Gartenschau season comes to an end, there is still a highlight coming up. You should not miss out on the children's Halloween spectacle including a varied program. Right at the entrance dragon “DRAKO” welcomes the little and brave visitors from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Many join-in activities such as face painting, pumpkin carving or handicraft work are provided from noon. Along the scary trail, various game stations point the children in the direction of spooky treats. From 2 p.m. kids can sign up for the costume contest on the open-air stage. Therefore: Dress yourself up in a costume! The costume presentations start at 3:30 p.m. Dance performances by the “Metzger” dancing school take place onstage at 4:30 p.m. The award ceremony of the costume contest begins at 4:45 p.m. Furthermore, children can look forward to the magic show at 5 p.m. The witching hour starts at nightfall and kids roam the spookily decorated park. Food and beverages are offered. Admission is € 7 for adults, € 5 for students aged 16 to 25 years and € 3.50 for children aged 6 to 16 years. Kids younger than 6 years have free admission.

Monday, October 31:

SAMHAIN Festival at the Celtic Village of Steinbach

SAMHAIN, the Celtic origin of Halloween, was the beginning of the New Year and winter. On that day the Celts feasted, they drunk and celebrated extensively. The Celtic Village, a settlement replica, opens its mighty gates on Halloween at 5 p.m. Swedish fires illuminate the venue. Visitors can expect an exciting program for the young and the old. Varied join-in activities such as spear throwing, crafting, baking twist bread and much more acquaint the guests with the everyday life of the Celts. A torchlight procession including a Druid ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and leads to the Celtic Garden. There, the suspenseful story of the origin of the festival will be told. Afterwards, the handcrafted scarecrows will be burnt in the campfire, so that the good wishes for the New Year may come true. The Irish folk band “Heebie Jeebies" performs from 8 p.m. Four creative musicians play instrumental pieces as well as beautiful songs and ballads round “the Emerald Isle”. Celtic stew, mead and sausages are available. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission fee is € 6 for adults, € 3.50 for children and € 15 for families. Monday, October 31:

Halloween Chase at the Kaiserslautern Zoo

On Halloween the Kaiserslautern Zoo opens at 9 a.m. Brave visitors can participate in a spooky and scary course through the zoo from 5 p.m. until 8.30 p.m. Who has the courage to enter the "House of Dragons"? Who has the guts to face the "monsters of the air"? Who has nerve enough to find "the shining eyes of the giant creatures"? The boldest ones among you have to overcome the ghost and monster chase, escape from witches, cut across the “path of horror” and dodge the obstacles. “Survivors” will be rewarded with a free Halloween meal and beverages at the restaurant of the zoo. The team of the Kaiserslautern Zoo is looking forward to many children and adults dressed up in their favorite costume. Visitors pay the regular admission only!
