Saint Martin´s Procession in Ramstein

Beginning of November is the time to commemorate Saint Martin. According to the legend Martin was a Roman soldier who shared all he had with the poor. One winter night St. Martin met a beggar just wearing rags and freezing badly. With his sword he cut his cloak in half and shared it with the beggar. Throughout the local area lantern processions are held in memory of Saint Martin. The event starts in the Ramstein Catholic Church at 5.30 p.m. with a prayer featured by the children of the Montessori Kindergarten. Afterwards parents and their children carrying lanterns follow St. Martin riding his horse through the streets of Ramstein. The procession ends next to the church where the Saint Martin´s fire will be lit up. Beverages and sausages are available. All families and people interested to participate in the Ramstein lantern parade are cordially invited. Participation is free of charge.
