Dazu gehört ohne Zweifel der Ausruf: „Da brat mir doch einer ’nen Storch!“ Gemeint ist damit großes Erstaunen – also etwa: „Das gibt’s ja gar nicht!“

Doch warum ausgerechnet ein Storch? Heute wirkt das Bild eher kurios, früher war der Storch allerdings ein besonderes Tier. In vielen Regionen galt er als Glücksbringer, Frühlingsbote und Beschützer von Haus und Hof. Außerdem brachte er bekanntlich die Kinder – zumindest der Legende nach. Einen Storch zu braten oder gar zu essen, wäre deshalb nahezu undenkbar gewesen. Genau darin liegt wohl der Witz der Redewendung: Etwas so Abwegiges kann nur ausgerufen werden, wenn man wirklich sprachlos ist.

Sprachforscher vermuten, dass die Wendung im 19. Jahrhundert entstanden ist. Erste schriftliche Belege finden sich um 1890. Seitdem hat sich der Satz hartnäckig gehalten – besonders im norddeutschen Sprachraum hört man ihn bis heute noch gelegentlich.

… und mal ehrlich: Gegen so einen herrlich verrückten Ausruf wirken moderne „Wows“ geradezu langweilig.
